VIENNA (Agencies) - Ali Larijani, Iran's chief negotiator, met the top UN nuclear monitor Mohammed ElBaradei in Vienna on Friday ahead of talks with the European Union, Reuters reported.

Larijani goes on to Portugal's capital Lisbon on Saturday for talks with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana. Larijani made it clear on arrival in Vienna he would not discuss a compromise on Iran's right to a peaceful nuclear energy program. "Even if the UN threatens Iran with issuance of more sanctions, the country will not stop its uranium enrichment activities," Larijani said. Larijani insisted that Iran's logic is dialogue and engagement in order to resolve the dispute with the West, IRNA reported. "Had they done so in the past, the problem would have been resolved sooner," Larijani told reporters before going to talks with ElBaradei. Larijani was expected to talk to reporters after the talks.
